Many families have had very good success with biomedical interventions including the GFCF diet, vitamin supplementation, probiotics, and chelation. Below are a number of resources for getting started with these types of therapies.

Facing Autism: Giving Parents Reasons for Hope and Guidance for Help
Lynn M. Hamilton, Bernard Rimland
This book is excellent, and covers many important topics. It is the first book I would recommend to a parent with a newly diagnosed child.

Unraveling the Mystery of Autism and Pervasive Developmental Disorder:
A Mother's Story of Research and Recovery

Karyn Seroussi, Bernard Rimland
Excellent also, explains in depth gut dysfunction, the GFCF diet and why it works for some children.

Children with Starving Brains
Jaquelyn McCandless, MD
Excellent, from a guru of biomedical interventions. This book details the current research and interventions, and Dr. McCandless personal experiences working with autistic children.

Autism Research Institute's DAN! Biomedical Assessment Options Manual
DEFEAT AUTISM NOW! Biomedical Assessment Options for Children with Autism and Related Problems, by Jon B. Pangborn, Ph.D. and Sidney M. Baker, M.D., with an introduction by Bernard Rimland, Ph.D. This October 2002, version of the DAN! Protocol replaces the 1996, 1997, 1999, and 2001 Clinical Options Manuals that have revolutionized the biomedical approach to the diagnosis and treatment of autism, PDD and related disorders.

If you are serious about looking into biomedical interventions, you MUST get this book. Written for physicians by physicians. Some parents who have brought this book to their pediatrician to help them understand biomedical interventions. It is in two parts, the first half by Jon Pangborn will scare most people away, because it is heavy on the chemistry. Skip right to the second half written by Dr. Sidney Baker (he used to be head of pediatrics at Yale). This portion is a fairly easy read for practitioners, and most parents will find it understandable. Go back and read the first half if you have a strong leaning towards biochemistry.

Biological Treatments for Autism and PDD
William, Ph.D. Shaw
Written by the guy who started Great Plains Labs in Kansas. Very good book - overviews of most all biomedical issues and alternative treatments. Easy to read.

Detoxification & Healing
Sidney MacDonald Baker, MD (DAN! Practitioner)
Written by the for everyone, but mentions his work with autistic children. Very easy to read, and Dr. Baker interjects a sense of humor into his writing. Dr. Karima Hirani recommended this book as well as the following book when she was treating ME. While educating myself on the immune system, it helped me to understand how these issues apply to my child.

Heal Your Heartburn
Sherry Rodgers, MD
(DAN! Practitioner)

Rotten title, great book. It’s not really about heartburn. You will have a good understanding of gut issues and related immune problems
after reading this book.

Is This Your Child
Doris Rapp Md
Many children have undiagnosed allergies. Is This Your Child? shows parents how to identify the common foods,
chemicals, or common allergic substances that could be the culprits that cause some children or adults to feel unwell or act inappropriately. If your child is always sick, hyperactive, a slow learner, or cranky, the first question you should ask is not "What drug should be prescribed?" or"What have I done wrong as a parent?" Instead, find out the cause.

What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Children's Vaccinations
Stephanie Cave
You need to read this book prior to vaccinating your child. Dr. Stephanie Cave (DAN! practitioner) outlines topics to be concerned
with, so a parent can make intelligent decisions about how and when to vaccinate.

Vaccination, Social Violence, and Criminality: The Medical Assault on
the American Brain

Harris L. Coulter
Very scary, it’s tough to read because it rings so true. It makes you wonder about how many people sustained minimal neurological injuries
which cause them to behave aggressively or impulsively, or have other sociopathic behaviors.

What To Do About Your Brain Injured Child
Glenn Doman
This book was extremely helpful in helping me understand why physical activity is so essential for brain development. The Brain Gym
philosophy, and Carla Hanaford’s Smart Moves were developed from the original research that the Doman brothers did.

Conquering Autism: Reclaiming Your Child Through Natural Therapies
Stephen B. Edelson, MD
Highly recommended by a mom whose child whose immune system is recovering due to biomedical interventions.

Special Diets for Special Kids
Lisa Lewis
Essential for parents going GFCF.

VIDEOS

Physicians who have successfully treated their own autistic children:
The Defeat Autism Now! (DAN!) Doctors
Presented at the July 2001 Conference of the Autism Society of America. Panel Chairman: Paul M. Hardy, M.D., of the Professional Advisory Board of ASA. Three parent-physicians (Jeff Bradstreet, M.D., Amy Holmes, M.D., and Miriam Jang, M.D.) explain how they found conventional medicine ineffective in helping their autistic children, in contrast to the remarkable improvement achieved in their own, and hundreds of other, autistic children with the DAN! approach. Tape contains the full presentations by the four physician-presenters, plus questions and answers from the audience. 2 hours and 36 minutes. *Available on Amazon and from ARI. Highly recommended. UnInformed Consent

Very scary video focusing on the effects of mercury toxicity, much is discussed about mercury amalgams.
